What phones can receive enhanced messages (EMS)?

An EMS can consist of anything from an emoji, special character, to a signature. Messages with more than 160 characters are also considered EMS.

If an EMS is sent to a phone without EMS capabilities, it will generally come up as strange characters or a blank message. This happens because the device can not translate the message properly.

Most smartphones can send and receive enhanced messages.

Basic phones do not support the ability to send or receive enhanced messages.
