To get the most out of your smartphone and keep things running smoothly, you should update your phone by downloading the latest available operating system. Downloading updates also improves the user interface, enhances security, and removes minor bugs.
Before updating your phone’s software whenever a new version is available, we recommend connecting to wi-fi, backing up your phone, and ensuring that the phone’s battery is at least 50%. Please be aware that during the update process, your phone cannot be used, and files will be inaccessible. You will not be able to make calls, even to emergency services. Also, please note that updating your phone can result in some differences to the phone’s interface.

iPhone
- Tap on "Settings"
- Choose "General"
- Tap "Software Update"
- You will be shown the iOS version that’s currently installed on your phone and whether an update is available to download
- Your iPhone will update to the latest software version when an update is installed
Android
Please note that not all Androids have settings in the same place or with the same names. However, the instructions below will help give you a general idea of what to do. These directions will generally apply no matter what Android phone you have (Samsung, Google, Motorola, LG, etc).
- Go to "Settings"
- Tap on "About Phone" or "System"
- Choose "Software Update" (it may say "System Update" or "Check for Updates" instead)
- If an update is available, an "Update" button will appear for you to tap on
- Tap "Download and install" or "Check for system updates"
- If an update is available, it will begin downloading
- When the download is complete, follow the on-screen instructions to install the update
- Depending on your software version with an Android phone, it may be necessary to repeat this process multiple times to get the latest software update
